Create models using MicroStation SmartSolids. SmartSolids offer more editing possibilities than SmartSurfaces and are guaranteed to close a complete volume.

If the solid contains non-polygonal elements (cylinders, arcs), convert them into mesh to automatically convert non-polygonal elements into shapes when dropped.

Existing building models do not have to be converted to solids to work with Bentley Map. If the model is working well now, looks correct and renders properly then it can be converted to XFM features as described in 3D Smart Editing Basics. The model may not be suitable for editing with the SmartSolids tools, however, in most cases, existing buildings are not candidates for editing and modification.
